Self-checkout: tips for success

These pointers will help ensure smooth self-checkout. Remember, too, that we always have staff at the desk who are happy to help you!

  1. Don’t worry if your library card won’t scan. Hit “Cancel” and try it in a different direction, or just type your card number on the keypad onscreen.
  2. Count your items as you put them on the scanning pad (one layer deep works best). That’s easier than trying to keep track of specific titles. The total number of items checked out is displayed on the screen.
  3. The display will turn to green as each item is successfully checked out. You can remove items from the pad once they’re checked out. When everything is green, you’re ready to move to the next step.
  4. If you have rental items (popular new items that check out for $1 per week), you’ll be asked if you want to pay your rental fees. Note that self-check stations only accept credit cards. To pay cash, finish your checkout, then join the line for staff assistance.
  5. You can choose not to print a receipt, if you prefer. But please remember that you are responsible for returning everything on time.
