This display highlights a selection of the renowned Mark Twain holdings of the Rare Book & Manuscript Library at the University of Illinois. Showcasing various nineteenth- and twentieth-century editions of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, including a comic book adaptation, an early French translation, and one of the sequels penned by Twain, the exhibit illustrates the unwavering popularity of the character of Tom Sawyer since his debut in 1876 and the lasting influence of the stories written about him and his comrades. Also on display will be a bronze cast of Twain’s right hand and other images related to the author.
