I'm opening a new business in Urbana. What do I do?

You need to contact the following agencies (Some may not apply due to the type of business):

• INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE
  obtain Employer Identification Number (EIN)
• ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE
  obtain Illinois Business Tax Number (IBT)
• C-U PUBLIC HEALTH DISTRICT
  obtain permit and inspection if selling food
• CITY OF URBANA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPT.
  obtain building permit and zoning approval
• CITY OF URBANA MAYOR‘S OFFICE
  obtain liquor license if selling liquor
• CITY OF URBANA ACCOUNTING OFFICE
  register for Food/Beverage tax or Hotel/Motel and receive tax returns
