Talk with Business Experts Through Online Discussions

Got questions about running a business? Snap up this chance to get free advice from experts by way of the nearest computer.

Local business experts are sharing tips and responding to your questions and comments in a series of “Ask an Expert” online discussions. Each expert checks in once a day for two weeks at bizknowhow.org. Upcoming topics include marketing, energy efficiency, analyzing the competition, funding sources, and legal issues. Many of these discussions follow a live workshop at the library on the same topic. It’s all part of our Business Know-How initiative to support entrepreneurs and employees. more

Friends Luncheon to Feature Author Ray Elliott

Friends members are invited to celebrate a milestone year of giving to the library — and to relax on the heels of the latest book sale — at the annual Spring Luncheon. The event will be on Tuesday, April 24, from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the Champaign Country Club. The cost is $16 per person.

Guest speaker Ray Elliott (pictured) has been a Marine, a farmer, an oil field roughneck, a construction worker, a truck driver, a bartender, and a high school and college English and journalism educator. He retired in 1999 to write full time. His newest book, Iwo Blasted Again, is a novella about the final thirty-six hours in the life of an aging Iwo Jima veteran.

RSVP by Tuesday, April 17. Mail a check, payable to Friends of the Champaign Public Library, to: Joan Walton, 507 S. McKinley, Champaign, Illinois, 61821. more

A Library for Your Neighborhood

How’d you like having a library on your block? Our Bookmobile is looking for new weekly stops. An Open House this month will let you sample our great selection of fresh books, hot DVDs, kids’ books, and more. Look for us in the library parking lot on Saturday, April 21, from 1 to 3:30 pm. Then let us know how we can serve your part of town. The Bookmobile can also appear at neighborhood events. Contact Greg Olson at 217/403–2008 or golson@champaign.org.

Thanks, Volunteers

During National Volunteer Month, we pause to thank the many people who gave their time generously to the library this past year. By helping us, they’ve really helped you, too.

If you enjoy spending time at the library, volunteering for us might be right for you! Contact Volunteer Coordinator Chiawen Liu at cliu@champaign.org or 217/403–2076. See a list of all of our recent volunteers.

Kids Love Online Homework Help

Champaign students love free Live Homework Help — real tutors online daily from 3 to 9 pm. “It gets me back on track!” “Thank you so much; it helped a ton.” Those are actual comments from local students in grades 4 to 12 who have used the service, powered by tutor.com. more

Library Closed Sunday, April 8

The library will be closed for Easter on Sunday, April 8. Our book drops will stay open for you to return materials.
