Step into our light-filled, open spaces and see our wonderful Peter Sís murals, colorful TeenSpace, quiet meeting rooms,  Latte Da! Cafe, and FriendShop used book store. The library, at 200 W. Green St., is open weekdays 9-9; Saturdays 9-6; Sundays 1-6. Read more.

Douglass Branch Library

Our Douglass Branch Library, on the edge of Douglass Park, is open Monday to Thursday 10 am to 8 pm; Fridays 10 am to 6 pm; and Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm. Stop in for a great selection of books, DVDs, and CDs, plus friendly service, free Internet access, and public meeting space.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

We’ve just launched the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Offered by libraries across the country, it gives parents an inspiring goal and promotes bonding through books. To sign up, stop by our children’s desk or the Douglass Branch. We’ll provide reading logs and a small reward for every 100 books completed. And, yes, you can read the same book more than once!

Tag Bag Sale at the FriendShop

The next Tag Bag Sale at our FriendShop bookstore is April 26 and 27. Items with the secret sale tag color will be just $1 per bagful. Bring your own grocery bags. Hours for the sale are Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 1:30 pm to 5 pm.

Douglass Branch Library

Sonnets, haikus, limericks, and more! On Wed., Apr. 23, at 6 pm, adults and teens are invited to read their work at a relaxed Poetry Café at our Douglass Branch.

In Concert at CPL: Mike Blakely

Hear Mike Blakely perform at the library on Thu., May 1, at 7 pm. This award-winning singer, songwriter, and author has seen his songs recorded by Flaco Jimenez, Raul Malo, and many others. He has earned awards for both best western novel of the year and best western song of the year. Read more.

I-Pan Steel Drum Band

Immerse yourself in the sunny sounds of Trinidad and Tobago, performed on steel drums by students from the U of I School of Music. Bring the whole family to the library for a free concert on Sat., May 3, at 3 pm.
